Urbanage at First National Forum on Accessibility and Urban Regeneration

On the 17th and 18th of January 2023, the first Forum on Accessibility and Urban Regeneration was held in Madrid at the Eduardo Torroja Institute, CESIC headquarters.


The Forum was targetted at the general public, academia, and industry and aimed at discussing various dimensions of accessibility in the built environment. The event was coordinated by the Eduardo Torroja Institute of CESIC and was promoted by a group of researchers and professionals from different institutions and companies.

TECNALIA and the City of Santander, members in the URBANAGE consortium, were represented by Ms. Silvia Urra, researcher at TECNALIA, and Mr. Antonio Benzanilla, Director of Urbanism at the City of Santander. Both participated in the workshop Accessibility and disruptive technologies which was focused on the adaptation of the urban environments to today's challenges. The workshop analysed the huge untapped potential in the use of disruptive technologies, such as artificial intelligence, big data analytics, digital twins and gamification.


Moreover Ms. Urra and Mr. Benzanilla, participated in a discussion on the barriers or difficulties of disruptive technologies from a more social perspective. In the end the participants identified the challenges and opportunities for the coming years in the field of applied technology in the field of accessibility and urban planning with criteria of equity and sustainability.
